FAQ

Why are EL POAIG oils so exclusive?
They come from millenary Farga olive trees, which are fewer in number and yield lower volumes compared to other olive trees and varieties. These are isolated, massive trees that are difficult to harvest and produce very small amounts of oil. Additionally, we work with endangered varieties like Canetera, which has extraordinary organoleptic properties but low yield. All of this, combined with the special design of our handmade white porcelain oil cruet, makes EL POAIG oils the most exclusive in the world.
What is the difference between millenary olive oil and other oils?
The only difference between olive oils around the world is whether they are well-made or poorly made, depending on whether they meet high-quality standards and are processed correctly. Beyond this, it’s the variety, the skill of the master miller, and the technology used that makes the difference. However, there is one distinction: millenary olive oil is not only among the best in the world for its aroma and taste, but when you purchase a bottle of EL MIL DEL POAIG, you acquire part of a millenary landscape—the fruit of trees over a thousand years old. You help prevent the indiscriminate felling of these natural monuments and honor the work of the people of the MAESTRAT, who have ensured these trees survive today. It’s more than just oil—it's health, history, tradition, and beauty.
What is the difference between extra virgin olive oil and regular olive oil?
There are many differences in aroma and flavor. But above all, extra virgin olive oils come from fresh fruit, with proper production processes at low temperatures to avoid oxidation and fermentation. They are evaluated by the tasting panel as EXTRA VIRGIN OLIVE OIL, considering their organoleptic properties, the intensity and diversity of aromas, taste, and aftertaste.
Does the color of the oil affect its quality?
Color does not affect the quality of the oil. It is due to various factors, such as the variety used in production, and it does not influence the quality. But if you enjoy admiring it, our oil cruets are designed to let you appreciate the contrast between the oil and the white porcelain.
What are the health benefits of olive oil?
The health benefits of olive oil are countless. Thanks to its high content of monounsaturated fats, its benefits include: cardiovascular protection, increased good cholesterol (HDL), reduced thrombosis, blood pressure control, diabetes prevention, Alzheimer’s prevention, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, cell growth stimulation, and a source of vitamin E. Some ongoing studies suggest that extra virgin olive oil may have antitumor activity in certain types of cancer.
Does the type of container affect the oil’s quality?
Yes, the type of container impacts the oil’s preservation and its properties. Oil should be stored in opaque containers to avoid light exposure, and in materials that maintain temperature balance to protect the oil’s qualities. For this reason, EL POAIG’s most precious oils are packaged in porcelain and dark glass.
How does acidity affect the oil’s quality?
Acidity indicates the breakdown of olive oil during production and measures the amount of free fatty acids it contains. A certain degree of acidity is normal, as the degradation process begins the moment the olives are harvested. Higher acidity indicates slower or inadequate processing, which leads to lower oil quality. Acidity should not be confused with bitterness, which is influenced by factors such as the variety and polyphenol content. A good bitterness can be both enjoyable and healthy.
How should olive oil be stored?
It’s important to protect it from light and store it in a cool, dry place without significant temperature changes.
How long do I have to consume the oil before it loses its qualities?
The consumption time for extra virgin olive oil depends on several factors, including how it’s stored after production (EL POAIG oils are preserved in a protective atmosphere, without oxygen, and with noble gases until packaging, which is done on demand) and the variety of the oil. Some highly aromatic varieties have greater volatility and lose their polyphenolic properties more quickly. Based on these factors, MANUEL ARNAU, EL POAIG’s master miller, decides the best-before dates each season.
Is it advisable to cook with EL POAIG oil?
You can cook perfectly well with EL POAIG oils, as they are well-structured oils with all their properties intact. However, we recommend consuming them raw to fully appreciate their aroma and taste, and to prevent any alteration of their composition, making them a perfect healthy addition to any diet.
